Tarigami asks Indian civil society to wake up Lastupdate:- Tue, 1 Jan ...

Kulgam, Dec 31: Asserting that people in Kashmir stood by the people in Delhi in this time of grief, CPI (M), State Secretary and legislator M Y Tarigami Monday? appealed the Indian civil society to wake up to the atrocities committed in Kashmir.
?The incident of gang rape and murder in Delhi has shaken the consciousness of every human being.? We too can feel their pain and anguish as we ourselves have been witness to many such incidents; however we expect the civil society to? raise its voice when the same atrocities are perpetrated? on the innocent? Kashmiris,? saidTarigami.
?He was speaking at a party convention, commemorating the 19th death anniversary of the Kisan Tehreek founder Abdul Kabir Wani. The government of the day must review the outdated laws in this regard. It should be seen how to make the existing laws more stringent to tackle such crimes. Besides fast track courts should be introduced to dispose of the already pending cases of this nature. Above all the society needs to stand up against these crimes so that women feel secure and safe in their homes and outside, said he.
?He said that anyone involved any kind of atrocity, including rape, killings and other human rights violations should be brought to book and justice be done.
?Grave injustice has been done in Kashmir during the past 22 years of conflict and even these days, Kashmir is not a safe place.? We fear for our daughters and our young children. Many Kashmiri rape victims are still craving for the justice, Tarigami said.
?Recalling the unfortunate incidents of violence of 2010 unrest that consumed over 120 innocent lives, Tarigami said that even after two years people still await answers for what happened to perpetrators of the violence who are yet to be brought to justice. Even the FIRs have not been lodged against those involved in killings, said he.
?Tarigami also condemned the recent firing in Pulwama district at two different places and demanded impartial probe.
?Whatever happened in Pulwama some days back is condemnable and a thorough, impartial probe should be conducted into the matter, said Tarigami.
?He stressed that as the world is set to welcome New Year today I urge upon the leadership of the two countries to draw lessons from the hostilities between them and achievements they made through unfortunate skirmishes in last over 60 years. India and Pakistan must prevail upon the negative attitudes integral to their domestic politics as it is in the interest of the whole region not to let hostile narrative to dominate their political discourse, he maintained.
?On the occasion, glowing tributes were paid to veteran Kisan leader Abdul Kabir Wani who died 19 years ago. The speakers described Comrade Wani a dedicated revolutionary and a dignified human being, who remained undaunted while struggling for the preservation of secular traditions of our people.
