Cultural Appropriation

There's this game called Golden Sun. I adored it when I was younger, so when the latest addition came out for the DS, I was sold. When I actually began playing though, I found some pretty lame faults in the script, gameplay, plot, etc. Undeterred and convinced there must be something I could like, I trekked onwards until I discovered a water city based on the pre-industrialized version of my home country. I was impressed and flattered! The architecture was lovely, though uninhibited when I ventured into the place. I searched onwards until I found a resident. He wore the same beautiful grabs of my people, along with....... Blue hair.

....?

I explored the city thoroughly, finished its little plot points, and found that that was really all there was to the water city. Nicely dressed folk with blue hair. No lifestyles, no lore, just forgettable NPCs and the general vibe that the game developers googled some cities related to water and referenced the pretty google pictures.

In this instance, it wasn't the appropriation itself that I found disappointing, it was the bad goddang writing and seemingly minimal effort into research. xD I rather believe that most cultures don't mind the idea of appropriation in the least, they just would prefer it be done well if at all. So, ultimately seconding Bosch's point here.
